The Jewelry Attack Continues

This turquoise piece came from a necklace of my mom's that burst apart. I managed to wrap the stone in the last length of silver wire that I had here in Mozambique, then string it on a soft leather cord.

This necklace is on the same brown leather cord, but the pendant is made of wood and ivory beads with some silver spacers in the middle.

This necklace I made a while back using freshwater pearls, amythest beads, and a piece of quartz as a pendant. End result is very feminine and dainty.

This necklace consists of garnet and light green glass beads. The green stone pendant I have yet to identify. Anyone know what kind of stone this is?

Beautiful, beautiful artwork :) How about trying to use more common materials there, like wood and leather? :/
On the other hand, I was thinking that most part of stones I have are from South Africa, so maybe it's worth checking out the possibility of purchasing your material there too, and not just in Brazil.
Expect a mail from me very soon (hopefully today), I have some work for you :)

~Alina - You've made me smile!

~No Exist - I definitely appreciate what you are saying, and I do feel I'm making a valiant effort to "get out there". I've traveled to South Africa with new friends twice in the last 3 weeks, gone to a concert to see live music with friends, gone out to lunch and for coffee, had my nails done... I just haven't written about it all!

I go out of the house at least once every day, even if it is just to go to the grocery store.

Unfortunately, this isn't the kind of place where I feel comfortable walking around the streets with a digital camera, much less my laptop to write!! (For that matter, this is not a problem unique to Maputo).

Can you believe that there are NO places to get jewelry materials here? My problem isn't that I lack beads - those I can use local materials like wood or bone or whatever - I lack the wire and string to put my creations on, and there is nowhere here to restock. I just have to wait to go to the US and buy there.

You know you are welcome anytime!!

~Kanuthya - Yes, I'd definitely like to check out RSA for materials, I just don't have the right contacts. And even if I did...well, I have no car so getting there to buy the materials is tricky, plus the mail system here doesn't work so I can't receive packages.

I'm looking forward to my task!

That green stone looks like tourmaline to me.
Dad

~Dad - Definitely not a tourmaline. Tourmalines are more transparent and are more of a "gem" green or even pink.

I think this is some type of agate or even a quartz...

Beautiful work!
I am bothered that someone would tell you to get out of the house. I have witnessed you stretching and moving out of your comfort zone while Ricardo is gone. You HAVE been social! I think you should do whatever feels right at the moment. Creating jewelry and meditating is a lot better than simply doing nothing. I guess their remarks seems to minimize what you have actually been doing and that's not cool!

~Kristine - How incredibly vaildating to read your comment. Thank you. Today I was feeling a bit down, and it was such a blessing that you reminded me how important it is to listen to what our body says it needs at any given time. Right now mine says that I need to be introspective, creative, still. And that is okay. It's not always easy, but I feel this is the right path for me at this moment, all the while trying to maintain some sort of balance with the "outside" world. Thank you again for your support.

hi ali, you're doing excellently on refocussing despite all the (self-)doubts of the moment...

life is about change, learning to see "outside the box" and following the inner urges and needs, with or without the help of those in one's surroundings... it sounds selfish but it isn't because in the end, if you don't follow your own dreams, nobody else will either...

keep well ;-)

~Mauricio - You make me remember my days as an English teacher. Thanks for the compliment.

~Bart - Yes, I am certainly the only one that will follow my dreams!!
