Alexandra Amaro Is (finally) on Etsy!

Friends, it's been a long time coming. I finally have set up a site to sell my jewelry online. You can visit my shop, Alexandra Amaro, on Etsy.

I decided to take advantage of the fact that I'm in the US (aka the Land of the Efficient Postal System) and sell all of the jewelry I manage to make during the 1.5 months I'll be here taking art classes.

So far there are 16 items up in my shop, including some cool wire-wrapped sterling silver rings that I just learned how to do in my class in Palo Alto on Wednesday.

I am still in the process of listing items - it is much more time-consuming than I'd originally imagined. I will also be continually creating new pieces and updating my site as they are completed. You can expect more necklaces and jewelry sets to come up in the next few days, so please check back often to see my newest designs.

All of the designs on Alexandra Amaro are one-of-a-kind. However, if you like something you see listed in the shop but want a slightly modified design or a different size, please let me know. I can usually custom-make a similar piece for you.

My mom and dad have both very kindly offered to act as my shipping agents, so basically everything I am able to make while I am in the US I will leave behind with them so that jewels can be shipped even after I leave.

If you are one of my friends in Mozambique and happen to like something on the site, please e-mail me (or convo me on Etsy) and let me know before you make a purchase. If you are willing to wait until late June, I will hand-carry the item to you and (obviously) will not charge you shipping.

Thank you all for your support. Without your wonderful feedback, it would have been much more difficult to take this step.

Enjoy!!!

Ali!! Yeh!!

Several of your rings remind me of my signature pink pearl ring. Interesting ... very interesting (hint enticing).

Will wait a bit and see what else comes. Of course if you KNOW somthting would suit me perfectly - let me know.

Alas ... the earrings aren't (but damn they are beautiful!)

I love it, gorgeous items and the site is so well presented.

Well done, Ali - I'm so proud of you!!!

I LOVE the rings. But as you know I have very small fingers and I only wear rings on my ring finger on my right hand (besides the wedding ring, that is), so I will have to measure, decide on a style and email you.

You make such beautiful jewelery..the kind that if I could design, I would design for myself. I am keeping my fingers crossed that when I come to Mocambique in early december you will still be there so I can purchase/commission some pieces! Im sure your business will take off in a big way in Maputo, I think theres a big market fo arts and craft at the moment and your stuff is unique.

Dude, awesome. When you said you were coming to the states I meant to leave you a comment to ask if you were going to be selling anything while you were here. Hooray!

~Lacithecat - I'm in the process of making some more things with pearls - will definitely try out a ring or two.

If there is anything that is perfect for you, I'll be sure to send you an e-mail. :)

~Safiya - Thank you!!

~Marcia - Let me know your measurement and the type / shape of stones that you like. We can definitely work something out.

~Moira - Que bom te ver por aqui novamente. :)

I've been selling in Maputo for the last year, and it's been going quite well. It's a tough market in that I have to source most of my supplies out of country, and I can't do e-commerce, but people are really supportive of my work.

I'd love to talk with you about some custom pieces, and it would be great to get to meet you in person in December.

PS - Loved your site! My dad is a photographer, too.

~Alphawoman - You rock!!

~Eliza - Yep, designing a bit every day and constantly updating. How are your Etsy plans coming along?

~Jane Poe - Thanks, and check back later this week as I have several new items listed and several still to put up in the shop.

~Elite in Paris - I'll be here through the end of June, passing through Rio instead of Paris on my way back to Moz. :( I wish we could meet... Good luck with all your work.

~Jenna - I meant what I said about the Casa Rosa. Just say the word...

The Primavera Earrings would be perfect with your skin/hair/eyes. Spring earrings for the girl with Spring coloring. :)

~Toni - Thanks for the support. I look forward to being able to check out your Etsy. Make it happen!

So that's who you really are.

It doesn't make sense for an artist/writer not to be known -- for who they truly are. That's a big step in taking yourself seriously and having everybody else recognize you as that person.

I think that makes sense for everybody -- to be known as the person they are, and have their thoughts and actions recorded as the story of their own lives -- as they lived it.

I still see a lot of people writing in the old manner of editing and censoring their own thoughts -- so that they can reinvent themselves anew with each new alias because they don't want/are afraid to be known as the person they are. That's all anyone has got. You might as well make the best of it.

There're a lot of people still thinking it is up to the media (or other institution) to make them a big something or other, when in fact, anybody can do that for themselves. That is what an artist/writer does.

~Alina - Thanks, you are such a good cheerleader for my creative side. :)

~Mike - I agree. And although my blog name, Ali la Loca, is obviously not my given name, my writing here is totally representative of who I am in "real life." Ali is my childhood nickname, the name by which everyone calls me. The "la Loca" bit comes from the number of times people have described me as The Crazy One.

Alexandra Amaro, the name of my jewelry line, reflects my proper name plus the last name I will tack on to my own once I get married next year.

I understand the preoccupation many people have with remaining anonymous on the internet. I'm happy to put my name and my face out there. I'm happy to share my story, although I recognize that there are also drawbacks to this decision.

Hey Ali! This is Teri/Theresa from Albuquerque (La Fuerza Artemis). I love your new stuff! What a great venture. :) And I also love the way your new name will sound. It was meant to be. Congratulations! It's been a LONG time since I've checked out your blog; I took mine down for several reasons. Anyway, keep well.

Teri

I brought this up because it is one of the seminal issues of the Internet -- that moves it to another level, rather than just being a glorified bathroom wall.

The powers that have-been, would like to maintain the control in determining who “validates” information -- and it takes a while for people to get used to the idea that they collectively do, with no special interest having more right to that control than any other. Credibility has to be established momentarily and directly -- rather than indirectly, through some other agency.

People who know what they are talking about, can demonstrate it to an audience of skeptics -- and not just claiming they can, or that they once could, or could if they wanted to -- but they don’t have to, ever again.

So I'm glad to see you establishing yourself as among the first of the real persons in the world of the future.
