Home Is Where I Want to Be*

After an insane month of calls with real estate agents and financial institutions, credit checks, lamenting over tax returns and the general feeling of being on a roller coaster 24/7, we did it.

We managed to get a mortgage. The dream home will be ours.

This happpy result is due to the incredibly hard work of Rico, my mom and the brilliant broker and agent we ended up working with. It is also thanks to the phenomenal generosity of our families, who put 100% of their time and resources up to help us make this a reality.

We have the closing scheduled in about 10 days, and the actual move-in will take place on September 23rd. From then, it is on to the fun part: decorating!

It sounds like you are ready, though...again, congrats..it will be neat when you get there to walk hand-in-hand around your new 'estate'..I know it was with me and Shayne!

Congratulations! This is so exciting!!
We are STILL searching... It's been an onward search for a house since October. Our 7th offer is currently on the table. I 'm glad your search has been smoother than ours!

I gotta tell you baby, we have been going through this 24/7 stress for months!! A month sound pretty good to me. Now another wrinkle, and we were told we would close yesterday. *sigh*

I am happy for you! I hope it is a home always filled with love and laughter. Thanks for your peaceful, beautiful pictures.

~Teej - Celebration in order, for sure! Plus I need someone to gossip with about interior design ideas...

~Stacie - Thanks so much. It's funny, Rico and I totally think of the house as our Home Base. It is home, and we want it to be home forever, the familiar place we can return to. But we are conscious that our lifestyle (well, definitely mine!) is not conducive to staying put for years at a time. I have visions of raising our children (someday) with home being the Bay Area and summers spent either in Brazil or Italy at our family homes...big dreaming, huh? :)

~Lindsey - We've got a guest room! You might have to sleep on the floor if you visit in the first year, but we can't wait to have out out in Cali.

~Laundrygirl - Hang in there. We had incredible luck, and were only considering one house. If this one had fallen through, we would have waited to purchase until on the ground in CA. I really sympathize, though - 7 offers is hectic!

~Nola - Thank you. I'm so excited about decorating and gardening. I will post photos of the transformatinos, as soon as we have cash to put them into reality!

~Amber - Ufff, months of that stress, huh? Sounds really tedious. We were lucky, in that we only tried for one house, and the owners were extremely motivated to sell. Our hangups were with getting a mortgage, but in the end we were able to find a deal structure that worked. However, without the support of my family and Ricardo's, there would have been no way we could pull this off!

It'll be your reality sooner than you think! Congrats.
